The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Mentor of the Year

Named after the former Executive Director of Communities In Schools, the Donna H. Black Mentor of the Year Award was created to recognize one individual from each school system who exemplifies what it truly means to be an encouraging, consistent, stable presence for a student in need.

Each CIS program is encouraged to nominate one mentor from their school to be CIS Mentor of the Year. From that pool of individuals, one mentor from each school system is awarded the Donna H. Black Mentor of the Year Award.
