The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Our Results

Every student enrolled in CIS is monitored to observe how they are affected by the mentoring relationship. While many of the benefits are intangible — for example, increased self-esteem and improved social skills — we closely monitor the measurable outcomes through monthly site reports and an extensive End of Year Report. We also solicit feedback from our mentors in an End of Year Mentor Evaluation. The responses and results are used to evaluate and improve our programs.

CIS by the numbers:

By the end of the 2009 – 2010 school year:

  • 356 CIS-enrolled students were being served by 234 mentors at 23 schools in the Lexington City and Davidson County school systems.
  • We facilitated 8,383 volunteer hours, working with 103 community partners and a total of 340 volunteers.
